Weed padded through the Ohu camp, dragging a tender and juicy-looking fawn along the ground by its leg. His nose quivered, searching for Koyuki's scent amid that of the other dogs. As he passed his comrades, he nodded and smiled pleasantly, trying to hide the nervousness he felt deep down. It'd been some time since he and Koyuki had properly sat down together to eat, or talk, or...anything, really. He knew why, of course, but...God, how he missed her...He missed those days where they lied together, watching the cherry blossoms fall...or when they'd take a lazy swim in the lake...So much had changed in the past year, and Weed absolutely hated it.
"K-Koyuki...!" the silver male suddenly gasped, the fawn's leg dropping from his maw. There she was...as gorgeous as ever...Weed's heart skipped a beat as he stared at her. He was afraid of taking another step; just one wrong move would send her running away from him again...

The kishu female swerved around her pack mates as she went about her day. She felt a rumble in her tummy and set off to take some food from the catches that some of the other soldiers brought back, or maybe she would even go and hunt for something herself? She could use the chance to stretch her legs, clear her mind. It could be good for her. She was wondering where to hunt when she could have sworn she heard her name being called? It wasn't very loud, but it had just managed to catch her ears. With her curiosity piqued Koyuki peered at the source of the voice... Seeing lo and behold the leader of Ohu staring at her, her mate.
For the briefest of seconds Koyuki had forgotten her anger with her mate, almost as though being angry at him felt so unnatural. However, the bitterness she felt had slowly trickled back, and she blinked at him. "Weed... Can I help you?" She asked coldly, wondering what it was he wanted now. She looked down and saw the fawn by his paws, remembering her hunger her stomach grumbled loudly, ruining her serious-posture that she had been putting on.

“I...” Weed began, shuffling his paws. He looked down slightly, his sapphire eyes glancing up at Koyuki in a sort-of begging manner. “I was wondering if...if you were hungry...I caught this fawn, but I realized it might be a bit too much for me. And...well...who better to share a meal with than someone as lovely as you...?” Weed’s lips curled back in an awkward-looking grin as he tried to pull off whatever charm he could muster at that moment. It was clear, however, how desperate he was to spend time with the Kishu female.

Silence. That was what Koyuki had been responding with for the first few heartbeats, looking between the fawn and what she was deeming as Weed's pathetic begging. She was very clearly hungry, not that she felt above lying about that just to not have to spend time with the dog that abandoned their son, but there was something about him trying so hard and being so determined to spend time with her that she couldn't say no to. Koyuki let out a drawn-out sigh, staring at Weed with brown eyes that held no detectable emotion. "Fine, I'll eat with you... But then I'll be taking my leave," She warned him, pushing down an agitated tone. It wasn't every day she got to eat fawn, and her stomach grumbled again at the thought, she just hoped she wouldn't regret, it felt like a very long time since she had sat down with Weed for a meal, not to mention a while since the last time they had a conversation without it turning into an argument.
Koyuki strode past the silver male, trotting off to a space that had less dogs milling about.

“Thank you...” Weed murmured, even though Koyuki had already left him at that point. He sighed, reaching down to pick up the fawn. She’d said yes to a meal, and that was a good start. Weed dragged the fawn with him to the quiet space, setting the fawn down gently. He sat, resting his paw on the head of the fawn. “Take the back half, Koyuki,” he said. “There’s more meat, and it’s really good.” Weed looked down at the fawn’s head; nothing but thin skin and bone. Not very filling, but...he wanted to spoil Koyuki...anything thst would get her to see him as more than the fool who got her child killed...

While Koyuki and Weed headed towards a good spot to eat the white kishu made sure to stay a few steps ahead of the other dog, posture straight, each pawstep after the other strong as she upheld her colder appearance. Did Weed only want to share a meal with her, or did he want to talk about Sirius and what happened? She could hear him now, 'Koyuki... I'm sorry', it was always something along those lines, it always had to be sorry...
As they reached a suitable spot to sit down and eat Koyuki looked to her mate, being offered the back half of the fawn. Well, that was one thing the leader was right about, the back half did have more meat on it and was really good. Looking him in the eyes Koyuki nodded curtly, settling herself down to (hopefully) enjoy the meal. She stared at the juicy fawn for a moment, realizing that somehow, in the time it took to get here her stomach had become something of a knot. It felt like there was a ball in her stomach, and her appetite seemed to have diminished. She wouldn't let the fawn go to waste however, and picked off a piece of it. After chewing it and swallowing the fawn chunk she stared back down at the dead creature, speaking to Weed without looking at him. "Was there something you wanted to talk about...? Surely... We aren't going to just eat like nothing ever happened..." she asked in shushed manner, wondering if she should just start the conversation, or maybe she should have kept quiet.

Weed had begun picking at the thin layer of skin on the fawn’s head when Koyuki had spoke. He glanced over at her, his ears perking just slightly. He felt his heart skip a beat at the question. Sure, there was much to talk about, about Sirus, about the war...but he also wanted a nice, quiet afternoon where he could enjoy his mate’s company. Weed swallowed, looking down a bit. “I...” he finally began. “I suppose you could say it’s a little bit of both. Of course, I’ll only do what you’re comfortable with...if you don’t want to talk, I...I understand. I...I just thought it would be nice to sit down together after all these months...” Weed finally looked up at the snow-white Kishu, his frown deepening.
“I...missed you, my love...”

Koyuki finally looked at her mate, listening to him as he paused and stumbled about his words. She tensed up when Weed addressed her as ‘his love’, and she was unable to hide the annoyance on her face. She had missed him too, he was the one who saved her after all, he was her love too, but things had changed... and she wondered if they could ever go back to normal. “You think you miss me?! What about Sirius? H-He... he’s gone, he can’t be with us anymore! He’s up there, all alone without his mother, or his siblings! He’s the one who suffered!” Koyuki scolded the blue male, tears running down her cheek as her tone would start to crack. “I just want my boy back... m-my dear sweet Sirius!” Koyuki gasped, putting her head near the ground as she cried out loudly, unable to fight back the tears or the sadness in favour of pretending to be strong in front of the dog she was so angry at. It was pathetic how easily she broke down... “H-He didn’t deserve it! H-He should be here, wi-with all of us!” Oh why couldn’t it have been her instead? If she had the chance she would gladly take her son’s place!

Weed opened his mouth to respond, but found that he couldn’t find the words to defend himself. His throat began to tighten, and his eyes stung like they’d never stung before. He began to tear up, though he bit his lip as he tried to hold back. Koyuki was absolutely right. Their son hadn’t deserved to die. No one did. And yet...he’d been taken from them and there was nothing that could be done about it. And the worse part was...Weed only had himself to blame...
“I...I know, K-Koyuki,” the male choked. “If it were possible, I...I’d bring him back...I’d bring all of our comrades back...I failed you...I failed Sirius...” Weed’s head lowered, tears finally peppering the ground as Weed began to sob. “I’m sorry...I’m so sorry...”

Through her own heavy crying the white kishu almost hadn’t heard Weed’s response, though she was able to make it out, she could hear her mate agree, tell her that their son did not deserve the hand fate had dealt him. So then why? Why had he let it happen in the first place?! She looked at him through teary eyes, her cold stare turning into something less intense, less hateful, as she saw the supreme leader of Ohu himself crying, apologizing profusely. Koyuki tried to find the words to bite back, something like ‘you should be sorry’, or ‘sorry won’t bring my son back!’ But she had said all of those things before, she had said them to Weed’s face with a cold, straight face and a broken heart, but right now for some reason she couldn’t bring herself to say them again. Just as sorry wouldn’t bring Sirius back, was it that insults wouldn’t return him to her either?
Tears continued to flow down her cheeks, hiccuping as she tried to stop her body from shaking with sadness. She continued to stare at the silver leader wordlessly. She was still mad at him, furious that he had let their son be killed, but she couldn’t spit out insults at this moment. Koyuki stood up, stepping towards Weed on weak, shaky legs. She stood in front of him, looking down at him with only sadness on her face. “Nothing will bring our son back, nothing...” she spoke softly as her voice shook, and she stared up at the sky for a few heartbeats to grab her bearings. That wasn’t a statement to make Weed feel guilty, but a hard-to-accept truth. “If you’re sorry, then be better. Show me you won’t ever do that again, banishing our children without considering their side of things like they’re some villain. You’re not just their leader, you’re their father, show them the love and understanding that you’re supposed to,” Koyuki continued. This didn’t mean she forgave Weed, but something about seeing him cry broke her heart. His tears were genuine, and for the first time she wondered if he was suffering just as much as she was...
Koyuki stared down at her mate, awaiting his reply. Tears dripped off of her cheeks and onto the ground.

“I’m sorry...” Weed continued to whimper, now shivering violently as he wept. “I w-won’t donit again, I...I promise...I promise, K-Koyuki...” The silver male fell onto his belly, his shaking paw reaching for his mate’s. Not a day had went by that Weed had felt regret for the past, and now, more than ever, he wished it’d been him lying on the beach instead of Sirius...at least, then, his beloved would’ve been happy. But no...he’d been so foolish as to believe blind banishment would solve anything...It seemed he hadn’t learned from the era of Hougen or Masamune. He was still just a stupid kid.

As Weed continued to violently shake it didn’t do the crying Koyuki any good. The scene made her lip quiver further, and although she was trying to save herself from another break down it was proving hard for her. Her vision blurred some as the tears continued, but she saw her mate’s paw reach out to her, and although she looked at it with hesitation the white furred female eventually reached back out to him, placing her paw atop of his. With a sniffle Koyuki couldn’t hold back any longer, lowering herself to the ground her body wracking with sobs again, but this time laying close to Weed. Comfort she had missed greatly came from being beside him, a sense of love and warmth for the other dog that she had nearly forgotten in her anger. She didn’t know what this meant, did that mean she trusted him again? No... she was unsure if that was what it meant. Could she ever really trust him again? But then... she was coming to realize that the male was just as struck as her by the death of Sirius, the promises and apologies Weed made, he had always been an honest dog, so perhaps this was what it meant. Only time would tell, and Koyuki prayed that history wouldn’t repeat itself.

Weed hadn’t been sure how long he’d been crying, only that when he’d finally ran out of tears, his head throbbed and his nose was stuffy. He laid his head against the ground, longing for a moment to rest. Wearily, he gazed up at Koyuki. He was afraid to speak; not wanting to anger her again with his foolishness. His eyes gently closed, and he let out one last, “Forgive...me...” before he nodded off, consumed by grief, guilt, and exhaustion.
